This application provides users with the ability to efficiently access information on Hazmat Incidents that have recently been reported to the U.S. Department of Transportation.
Industries overseen by the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) of the Department of Transportation are mandated to report incidents meeting specific criteria set by the regulatory authority. The incidents featured in this application are derived from comprehensive incident reports that are obligatory within 30 days of the occurrence of an incident involving the transportation of hazardous materials by Aircraft, Highway, Train, or Vessel.
Users can narrow down incidents in this application through various filters such as PHMSA-deemed serious incidents, undeclared shipments, incident location, or reported outcomes. Reported results may encompass a range of incidents including fire, explosion, evacuation, emergency response, injuries or fatalities, material spills, damages exceeding $500, and cases involving toxic inhalation hazards.
The Incidents list can be effortlessly organized by parameters like date (most recent), the UN# associated with hazardous materials, total damage costs, or grouped by state. Additionally, users have the option to perform specific searches using the material's UN#.
Each incident's detailed view includes a map displaying its location, incident cause, names of the shipper and carrier involved, a summary of the outcome, and material-specific details. Information provided covers materials listed in both the NIOSH Pocket Guide and Emergency Response Guidebook (ERG), encompassing physical descriptions of materials, synonyms, Immediately Dangerous to Life or Health (IDLH) levels, incompatible/reactive materials, and corresponding information from the ERG guide such as name and number.
Damage details may consist of breakdowns regarding cleanup costs for remediation, material losses incurred, carrier damages sustained, and response expenses.
It is essential to note that accurately pinpointing incident locations on the map is contingent upon precise address information being supplied at the time of reporting.
Data updates are available for download periodically within the application on the Overview tab as soon as they are made accessible.
